The Wheel of Fortune
The Wheel of Fortune
The tides of life for better or for worse
The Symbolism Contained in the Image
The Wheel of Life (Events) is shown in constant rotation. In the four corners of the card, four figures represent the four elements: eagle for Water (Scorpio), lion for Fire (Leo), Bull for Earth (Taurus) and angel for Air (Aquarius). Each of them is reading a book i.e. trying to learn about life from their individual perspective (angle; corner of the card). The yellow colouring suggests that they are approaching the subject from an intellectual perspective (in the World card they are in full colour). The snake represents Set, the Egyptian god of darkness, death and decay. On the other side of the Wheel is Anubis, the Egyptian guide to dead souls who brings new life. On top, a sphinx with a tilted sword suggests that the secrets of the universe are not easily understood. The Wheel of Fortune signifies change.
General Meaning
In a general reading, this card represents change without any indication whether the change will be positive or negative. The cause of change is also not indicated. There are going to be periods of great success and many achievements and periods of many setbacks and less achievements. It is recommended to raise above the perception of fortune and misfortune and observe the tides of life. It carries the message that what truly matters is how you respond to the change.
In Reverse
The Wheel of Fortune reversed indicates that a difficult change is coming that will require significant adjustment and flexibility. It is advised to analyse the situation and understand what this change has to offer. In the process, you may need to release what life seeks to take away from you. Alternatively, the card can indicate that the querent is trying to fight the change, usually to no avail.
Relationship Meaning
In a relationship reading, this card indicates a change in the querent's relationship status. The person may marry or divorce. They may change one partner for another or even change sexual orientation.
Career Meaning
In a career reading, the Wheel represents a new career or a new situation at work that brings about a significant change. In reverse, the card means unsuccessful adaptation to the new reality. You refuse to accept that things change and nothing lasts forever.
Finance Meaning
In a financial reading, the Wheel indicates a change in your financial circumstances. If you have been successful so far you may continue to be successful in the future too but you will have to make big adjustments because a change of tide is coming.
In reverse, the card indicates a change that you will find it hard to adapt to. While you struggle with the new ways you may lose some money.
